Fripp Island

We had a great Memorial Day weekend at Fripp Island, South Carolina.  Joe took Friday off of work too, so we had a four day weekend on the beach!

We heard about Fripp from a lot of the local people down here.  It is not a commercial-y type place and is very relaxed and quiet.  Everyone told us there is nothing to do on the island- and by that they meant there are no shops, only a couple of restaurants, and no stores or hotels or anything.  Basically, you can fish, drive around in the golf cart, go to the beach or go to the pool.  You can also golf or play tennis, but we don't golf and we forgot our rackets!  We had a great time and the kids loved it.  There are a ton of deer on the island that come right up to you, there are alligators to look at and a lot of pretty birds.  Our condo backed right up to a marsh, and deer gathered outside our deck all the time.  Very entertaining!  These pictures are all the view off of our deck.

We got there in the early afternoon of Friday, picked up our golf cart and drove around the island.  We went to the pool and then got a bite to eat at one of the two or three restaurants on the island.  The kids said their favorite part was the golf cart and they loved zipping around the island on it and looking at all the deer.

On Saturday, we went to the pool and then came back for lunch and a nap for Troy.  I took the kids to the beach when Troy was still napping and he and Joe met us there later.  The kids love boogie boarding and playing in the sand.

Troy likes the little pools of water before the ocean.  He will not step foot in the ocean!

Saturday was also our 11th wedding anniversary.  I thought ahead to bring a nice card along for Joe and was waiting around on Saturday morning for him to acknowledge that it was our anniversary so I could give him his card.  When I realized he wasn't going to do that, I handed him his card and said "Happy Anniversary".  He looked at me and said "Oh, that's today, isn't it?".  Needless to say, I did not get a card that day.  He did feel pretty bad for not remembering it, but in his defense we were gone the entire weekend and he is not much one to plan ahead for anything.  Whatever- he is going to be paying for this for years to come! ;)

On Sunday, we went for a nice long walk around the island.  They have neat bridges that go over the marsh areas, so we checked that out.  Then we went to the pool again and came back for lunch and naps and then hit the beach again.  Every night we would get an ice cream cone and drive around on the golf cart.  I think one day we got two or three ice cream cones- but who's counting.

On Monday we got up and took a walk again and then cleaned up to check out.  We were ready to get home but we had a great time.  I wouldn't exactly call it relaxing (is vacation ever relaxing with 3 kids?), but it was a nice, slow paced vacation and we didn't feel like we had to do everything or anything.  The kids said that Fripp was their favorite place so far (because of the golf cart and deer)!  We definitely want to go back sometime.
