End of Summer

Today is the last day of lazy summer days because school starts tomorrow.  Kids are 50/50 excited and not really wanting to go.  I know they like the social aspect of school, but didn't really want it to start again.  Adria was already crying in bed tonight saying she didn't want to go to school and that she wants to be homeschooled.  Hopefully we don't have a couple weeks of crying every morning like we have in the past.

We have had a good mix of a busy and lazy summer.  We have kept our days busy with random things and the kids have played outside a ton since the days weren't so hot.  We have spent many days at the pool, riding bikes, getting a lot of ice cream, playing with friends and just playing outside the apartment.  We went to the park a lot and spent a lot of time at Grandma's :).  We have been going up to our house a lot to check on the progress, too.

Troy learned to ride his bike a month or two ago.  He was asking for his training wheels off, but I thought he was too young to even try.  But Joe thought he could do it and he worked with him one morning and the kid got it right away.  The first day he was going off bumps and standing up and has loved riding his bike every day since.

We went to Adventureland a couple of weeks ago with another couple and their kids.  Their daughter is Adria's best friend ever and their son is a little older than Troy and they love each other too.  We have become friends with the family which is really nice and we all get along great.  It was fun going to Adventureland with them because our kids didn't fight at all and that makes for a good day for all of us!  Adria loved all the rides and Troy loved all the one's he was big enough to go on.  Tate got braver by the end of the day and was trying a lot of stuff that is usually out of his comfort zone.  We spent the night and came home the next day.

The kids and I went to the Quad cities one day and met up with some friends from Georgia.  They are both from the area and one had moved to Iowa again and the other was visiting family.  It was a great time to see them and the kids and we got all caught up on each other's lives.  These were some of my first friends in Georgia so they will always be special.

We went to Clear Lake last weekend.  We had a free Saturday, and it was really nice out, so we decided to find a beach.  We were joking around that going to the beach before for us meant Hilton Head, but Clear Lake is almost the same, right? :)  We had fun playing in the sand and water, got some lunch and ice cream and came home.  Nice little trip!

Now it is the end of staying up late for the kids and sleeping in every morning.  It will be hard to get them up tomorrow......

  1. I haven't read blogs in awhile! You're right...Clear Lake is no Hilton Head, but at least you're getting out and about and seeing what good old Iowa has to offer:)
